Belgian Chocolate Ice Cream – the Cheat's Way

Carole's Chatter: Belgian Chocolate Ice Cream

This is an easy cheat's way to produce a lovely tasting chocolate ice cream.  You just scoop some vanilla ice cream into a container and allow it to soften slightly.

Then put 2 teaspoons of a good quality drinking chocolate – mine was Belgian and came in a gift hamper -  into a teensy bit of hot water and mix – swirl this through your vanilla ice cream.

Pop it back into the freezer and in a few hours you have your treat ready to eat.

Food on Friday: Ice cream & sorbets

ON

This week the theme is both sweet and cool – Ice cream & sorbets!  Any dish featuring ice cream or a sorbet is most welcome –whether totally home-made or not!

To add your dishes, just put the name of the dish together with your blog name/name into the first Mr Linky box you will find below.  Then paste the url for your post about it into the second box.

I'll be pinning the dishes to this Pinboard which already has the hundred or so links from the collection in March 2013.

I disclaim all responsibility for resulting ice cream cravings!

Nostalgia alert!

TT2 ice blocks

TT2 ice blocks were probably just a New Zealand thing – I don't know.  But I have strong memories of buying them as a child from the local dairy (convenience store).  If I am remembering right they cost 4 cents each and my favourite flavour was grape!

TT2's were made by Tip Top – a great ice cream brand to this very day.  You can still buy Jelly Tips, Fru-Jus and Trumpets but sadly not the original TT2s.

Feijoa Ice Cream

Feijoa Ice Cream by Carole's Chatter

Just another quick cheat's ice cream for you today.  Feijoas, or as some people call them, pineapple guavas are just yummy.  They have a reasonably short season so we use them in all sorts of ways while the going is good.  In chutney and by poaching them.  So I thought why not flavour an ice cream with them.
So I used some vanilla ice cream as a base and then stirred through it a well chopped up inside of a ripe feijoa (I don't eat the skin raw).
After popping it back into the fridge for an hour we indulged.  The flavour was great but the texture was not quite smooth enough.  I'd either blend the fruit more thoroughly next time or lightly cook it first.

Tangelo Ice Cream

Tangelo Ice Cream by Carole's Chatter

My Tangelo Ice Cream is not based on a homemade ice-cream.  So it is a bit of a cheat – but a very yummy one!
I just took some scoops of vanilla ice cream and put them into a freezer safe container.  I then added about half as much tangelo juice and a teaspoon of Limoncello.

Tangelo ice cream before going back into freezer
I originally thought I would just swirl the juice through the ice-cream but that didn't work so it was pretty much mixed through.  Then back in the freezer until it reaches the consistency of ice cream again.
Tangelos are much juicier and sweeter than oranges but I'm sure you could do the same thing with orange juice.
The resulting ice cream was tangy and not too sweet.
