Sarah, Plain and Tall by Patricia MacLachlan

Sarah, Plain and Tall has a timeless quality about it.  It was published in 1985 but was set a lot earlier.  It is about a widowed dad and his 2 children.  He advertises for a wife and Sarah, who describes herself as plain and tall writes and offers to stay for a month to assess the situation.

The tale is touching, funny and at times heart-breaking.  Sarah sings which brings music back into their lives.  She is from the seaside in Maine  a country very different from the prairie.  She misses the sea.
