A Book for Kids between 6 and 8 –The Queen's Nose by Dick King-Smith

The Queen's Nose is a fun read – just right for the age group.  I can see why it was number 2 on the UK BookTrust's list.

The heroine is a 10 year old younger sister called Harmony who has a huge imagination.  She applies the relevant animal to each person in her life with great precision and wit – but no sentimentality.

Her names for some of the characters:

Mother – Pouty Pigeon

Father – Sea Lion

Sister – Simple Sissie (Siamese cat)

The Queen's Nose refers to the head of the Queen on a 50p coin.  There is a riddle. But I won't spoil the story for you.

The book has some illustrations which are also fun.

The book was made into a TV series.
