Hahaha, great idea. A friend of mine says, he tells them "one moment, please", puts the phone to the side and goes and has a coffee. When he returns, they have not only given up but never call again. Good advice, I think.
Once I kept the guy on the line for ages. He asked for my husband but had trouble with our last name pronounciation for some reason (it's Culbertson). I asked him to spell it. I exclaimed oh yes! He's outside could he hang on. The guy did do I asked him if he was calling about the bowling shoes (I made that up) and finally he got so frustrated he hung up on me in a rage! Great fun.
