St Polycarp – someone who knew the Apostles

St Polycarp lived between 69 and 155.  He was a preacher.  He was over 80 when he was burned at the stake at the request of an unruly crowd.

His Feast Day is 23rd February.  Polycarp is Greek for much fruit.  He is shown wearing a pallium.

  1. My husband quoted him the other week in a sermon! When faced with denying his faith, or death, he said "86 years I have served Him and he has done me no wrong. How can I blaspheme my Lord and Saviour? " And so he was martyred
