Dawn French isn't a perfect writer – sometimes it feels like she is writing a TV show but she sure can punch a plot up.
The premise of this book was interesting. I've always been curious about women who walk off with someone else's baby. So here we meet Hope who has just had a stillbirth and Anna, whose new baby is taken. Anna's husband is a prick (and was told so by a malapropping policeman – who said to him 'Truly, I've met some pricks in my time, but you, sir, are the full cactus.'
So this book is a bit slow in parts but by the end you are completely hooked and then, wow, an unexpected ending!
French writes with humour and empathy.
