Waiheke Island

Waiheke Island is part of Auckland City but is an island in the Hauraki Gulf.  It's about 20 k's from the CBD by ferry.  You can get to the island by fixed wing plane or helicopter but the ferry is the way to go in my opinion.

It has over 130k of coastline of which 40 k's are beaches.  No wonder it is popular both for holiday homes and day trips.

Waiheke in Te Reo means trickling waters.  There were gun emplacements built on the island during WWII.

There are quite a number of wineries on the island so a tour of them can be fun. You could catch the bus or take a tour.

The island has been compared to Martha's Vineyard.  Different climate but same vibe.

I'll let the pics speak for themselves.
