Foodie Friday: Battenberg Cake

Battenberg Cake dates back to 1884.  It was done to celebrate the marriage of one of queen Victoria's grandchildren, also Victoria, to Prince Louis of Battenberg.

As was the case in these days, this Victoria was also Prince Philip's grandmother!

The cake is made from pink and yellow sponge cakes that are then stuck together with apricot jam in a chequered pattern and covered with marzipan.

  1. That's a beautiful cake. I never can wrap my head around how to make a cake look like that.
