Counties of the UK: Cornwall




This is the next instalment of a new monthly feature going through the Counties of the UK in alphabetical order to check out things of interest.  I hope you enjoy it.

The Cornish are a celtic people.  In the Cornish language Cornwall is known as Kernow.


Location – Only one other county borders Cornwall – Devon.

County seat – Truro, Cornwall's only city.


Unusual town name – Brown Willy, Mousehole (said Mowzel)



Signature foods – Stargazy Pie, Cornish Pasties, Clotted Cream


Famous places to visit in Cornwall – Padstow (Rick Stein), Bude, The Eden Project, St Ives, Tintagel and Land's End (tacky but is the southernmost bit of the UK)



Famous people from Cornwall – Mick Fleetwood (Fleetwood Mac), Roger Taylor (Queen), Ben Ainslie (sailor), Susan Penhaligon (actress), John Nettles (Bergerac), Maria Branwell (mother of the Bronte sisters), Rosamunde Pilcher  (author)
