Today's Foodie Friday looks at Pigs in Blankets – no,
not live pigs and not wool blankets.
This is a traditional English Christmas side dish to go with roast
turkey.
Basically they are small sausages (normally chipolatas)
wrapped in bacon. I guess this dish
relies on good quality ingredients since it is pretty simple to make.
In the USA pigs in blankets often refers to sausages
wrapped in bacon and then in pastry.
Here is a traditional British recipe for them sourced from
the BBC.
Ingredients:
8 rashers smoked streaky bacon
16 chipolatas
Method:
Heat oven til moderately hot. Cut the bacon rashers in
half. Wrap each piece of bacon round a chipolata.
Put onto a baking tray and bake for 30-35 minutes until
golden.
