Arthur Golden – Memoirs of a Geisha

Memoirs of a Geisha is not a new book.  It dates back to 1999.  But it is a truly memorable book and gives a level of insight into past Japanese life and culture that I otherwise would have not known.

This novel follows the life journey of a young fisherman's daughter to becoming a renowned Geisha.  It is a remarkable book – particularly since the author, a man, is able to capture an authentic feminine voice.

Arthur Golden is an American who specialised in the study of Japanese art.

If you are interested in Japan and in finding out the truth about what Geisha's actually are – this book is for you.

  1. I loved reading this novel!! I read it for a book group around the time it was first released. Memories of A Geisha has become one of my favorite books.

  2. I tried this book a long time ago, but I could barely get through it. Maybe I'll give it another go

  3. I haven't read this one, though I have it on my TBR list. I watched the movie; I thought it was very good.
