Arthur Golden – Memoirs of a Geisha

Memoirs of a Geisha is not a new book.  It dates back to 1999.  But it is a truly memorable book and gives a level of insight into past Japanese life and culture that I otherwise would have not known.

This novel follows the life journey of a young fisherman's daughter to becoming a renowned Geisha.  It is a remarkable book – particularly since the author, a man, is able to capture an authentic feminine voice.

Arthur Golden is an American who specialised in the study of Japanese art.

If you are interested in Japan and in finding out the truth about what Geisha's actually are – this book is for you.
