St Brendan the Navigator
The feast
day of St Brendan the Navigator is
16 May. I hope you enjoy finding out
about some of the lesser known saints.
St Brendan is an Irish saint. He
went to monastic school at the age of 6 so I guess he didn't have many other
options other than to be a monk.
He sailed around Ireland and
Scotland and founded many monasteries.
He is said to have done one epic adventure during which he may even have
discovered America – but all that is pretty apocryphal apparently.
We have a statue of St Brendan here in Bantry town centre, West Cork, Carole. Apparently he sailed to America in his boat made of cow hide.
