The Chaperone by Laura Moriarty

It wasn't until I'd finished The Chaperone by Laura Moriarty that I realised that Louise Brooks, one of the characters, was a real person – a silent film star.

This is a super example of historical fiction – set from the 1920's onward.  The main character is simply mesmerizing – you have to keep reading to find out what happens and how she feels about it.  Her character is so rich and real that you would think she is a real person rather than a made up one!

I'm not going to spoil the book for you by telling you too much about it.  I agree with Paula McLain (author of The Paris Wife) that "it's impossible not to be completely drawn in".

  2. I read and reviewed this a while back for the BlogHer Book Club - same as you, I didn't know she was a real person until I was about midway through. Great book!
