The
House We Grew Up In is the first book by Lisa Jewell that I've
read – but I expect it won't be the last.
I found out about it through Books You Loved. Girl
with her head in a book reviewed it
and I ordered it up from the library.
I am finding it hard to describe even the genre of this
book and I don't want to give away too much about it. Maybe it could be described as a family
saga. It is really about a family under
stress and how they all cope. Does that
sound boring? Well it wasn't – I had to
keep reading just to get to the point where the pieces of the puzzle fitted
together.
Of course in real life those pieces often never get put
together and everything is left in a muddle.
One warning – I almost abandoned ship after about 20
pages – the book jumps between different times/points of view and it was
difficult to follow. I recommend you
press on though.
This book made me think about my own childhood – not
that it was at all similar, I hasten to add.
Have you read any of her other books? Which ones would you recommend?
This is a good review. Catherine
