Remembering a great horse today

Phar Lap

Phar Lap was a famous racehorse. He died on the 5th of April in  1932 in somewhat suspicious circumstances.  Rather gruesomely his remains are spread over 3 museums, skin in Melbourne, skeleton in Wellington and heart in Canberra.

Although he was born and bred in New Zealand (Timaru), Australia tends to claim him just like they claim other NZ imports like Pavlova, Russell Crowe, Crowded House etc etc. Next thing they'll be claiming Keith Urban too – just on the basis that he's married to an Aussie.
