The
flag of Mexico was modelled on the
French flag – with different colours obviously!
The colours come from the Independence Movement that achieved
independence from Spain. The central
emblem is the national arms of Mexico which have been in this form since
1968. There is an eagle perched on a
cactus holding a snake in its beak. This
represents an Aztec legend that the city would be site where an eagle stood on
a cactus.
