John Walker

John Walker (now Sir John) was born on 12 January 1952.  He is best known  for being the first person to run a mile in under 3.50.  He also won the 1500m gold at the Montreal Olympics.  One of the great New Zealand athletes of that era.  Perhaps his surname should have been Runner.

Despite suffering from Parkinson's Disease he is an Auckland City Councillor.  An achiever on many fronts!  Don't you just love the hair in the photo from his heyday!
