Solution for 14 July cryptic crossword clue

This clue could mislead you into thinking the solution was a word hidden in the clue – "discovered in" would be a hint that way.  But the setter has trickily made it an anagram of "meadow – cases I'd" – this is indicated by the word "treated".  And of course Mad Cow Diseases is a "beastly ailment" in the sense that it is an animal disease and is also awful.
