Places in NZ I would like to visit Part I:

Nelson – is in the sunniest region in NZ with over 2500 sunshine hours a year (but have had a couple of major flooding events lately).  It was named after Admiral Nelson.  The second oldest settled city in NZ.

The biggest fishing port in Australasia.  It has a weekly market on Saturdays.

Lots and lots of arts and crafts to see including the Hoglund Art Glass Studio.  The Art Directory itself is one inch thick.

And then it is also a great wine region.  What’s not to like?

I understand from my research that there are a number of good restaurants including –Hopgoods, Hot Rock Gourmet Pizza and Pasta Bar (there is a large Italian influence in Nelson).

In terms of accommodation there is an exclusive B&B 15 minutes out of town – Retiro Park Lodge and also the Te Puna Wai Lodge which has spectacular views.  The best rated hotel on Trip Advisor is the Century Park Motor Lodge – which is apparently much better than its name suggests.

  1. I just spent a great weekend in Nelson. Two particularly fantastic experiences - The Wearable Arts Museum and a walk to the Centre of NZ!

  2. A wine tour is most appealing. We drink kiwi wine frequently.

    1. Glad you liked the idea. Wine tours are great as long as you don't have to drive!
