Today is the
last day of the Philip Trusttum exhibition at the Pah Homestead. It is a very large exhibition of his work all
owned by the Wallace Foundation. I ended
up enjoying the work without being entranced by it.
The Pah
Homestead itself is a very attractive setting.
The cafĂ© is good (but not spectacular) – its peaceful outlook over Monte
Cecilia Park is lovely. There is a little shop with art books, some very nice jewellery and other fun objects. A good place to get an unusual gift.
The homestead
was built in the late 1870’s and at the time was the largest home in Auckland . The Catholic church purchased the property
and its extensive grounds in 1913. The
Auckland Council purchased it in 2002 and did a very good job of renovating the
homestead. The park is much larger than
I had imagined.
