Keith Holyoake, ONZ

Keith Holyoake was born on this day in 1904.  He is the only person to have been both Prime Minister and Governor General of New Zealand.  His appointment as GG was controversial – he was still an MP when he was appointed and there had to be a by-election.

He was known as Kiwi Keith much as tall people are called Shorty - in fact he sounded like a really plummy Brit.
