Need some inspiration? Try Kiwifruit

Kiwi & Rose Cream Trifle

Food on Friday: Kiwifruit was a small but beautiful collection of dishes.  To see all of them you can pop over to this Pinboard or to the original post.

Here are some of the dishes that particularly caught my eye:

Food on Friday: Kiwifruit

ON

While this Food on Friday may not result in a huge collection of dishes using Kiwifruit, it will be good to see what you come up with.  Kiwifruit (or Kiwi's to some of you)  are so yummy – and very good for you too!

Kiwifruit go well with:

Avocados
Coconuts
Cointreau
Coriander (cilantro)
Cream
Ginger
Kirsch
Lemons
Limes
Meringue
Mint
Oranges
Passionfruit
Rum
Strawberries

Kiwifruit also make excellent marinades for meat.

To add a post in that deals with kiwifruit, just put your name and the name of the dish into the first Mr Linky box and then paste the url for your post into the second one.

There are no rules about buttons etc.  I do encourage you to check out the other links.  To make this easier, I will be pinning them to this Pinboard.

Have fun!

The fuzzy funny looking fruit that is truly delicious – Kiwifruit

Kiwifruit used to be mostly grown in New Zealand although they are available all over the place now.  In many countries they are just called kiwis – which always makes me smile because in New Zealand a Kiwi is a New Zealander and the name of our native bird.

When I was a girl kiwifruit were called Chinese Gooseberries!  Some marketing whiz thought up the new name.

Kiwifruit look a bit funny on the outside with their brown fuzzy skin but the inside is delicious whether they are the original green variety or the newer golden variety.

The classic Kiwifruit pavlova or pav as we say

We use kiwifruit in fruit salads, on top of pavlova and even as a marinade to tenderise meat.  They are chock full of Vitamin C.  Apparently double that which you find in an orange, would you believe!  And it has the same level of potassium as a banana but only half the calories.

The next Food on Friday is about recipes using kiwifruit – I am expecting it will be a small but lovely collection.
