Bon Appetit! The delicious life of Julia Child by Jessie Hartland – not just for kids

While Bon Appetit! The delicious life of Julia Child by Jessie Hartland was written for children, I still found it quite delightful.

It resonates on many levels.  The illustrations are fun, the handling of Julia Child's life felt insightful to me.

There are a couple of recipes in the book but I didn't try them – one was for crepes and the other a galantine.

If you have a spare half an hour and are prepared to be engaged and amused, I recommend this book to you.

Nostalgia Alert!

The Little Yellow Digger

The Little Yellow Digger is a kid's book written by New Zealanders Betty and Alan Gilderdale.  It has been in print for more than 20 years and is read in many countries around the world.

There are now quite a few Little Yellow Digger books but, for me, the first one is still by far the best.  There is even a theatre version of the book.

Hometown New Zealand – Photographs by Derek Smith

Hometown New Zealand is a book of photographs that was published this year.  The photos are by Derek Smith.  They are beautiful shots of some down home places in New Zealand.  That is interesting in itself.

But the fact that the photographer took all these shots while working as a meter reader all over New Zealand makes it even more special.

I selected 3 photos to give you a taste of his work.  Enjoy!
