We've Only Just Begun – The Carpenters

We've only just begun to live
White lace and promises
A kiss for luck and we're on our way
(We've only begun)

Before the risin' sun, we fly
So many roads to choose
We'll start out walkin' and learn to run
(And yes, we've just begun)

Sharing horizons that are new to us
Watching the signs along the way
Talkin' it over, just the two of us
Workin' together day to day
Together

Ok, it's schmaltzy – but a good tune nevertheless. It started out in 1970 as the tune in a wedding commercial.  The songwriter came up with a bridge and another verse and a hit for the Carpenters was born.

We lost Karen in 1983 – very sadly.  Richard is still alive having overcome a prescription drug addiction.

  1. I love the Carpenters. And miss them. So many great songs they could have still made ...
