Ingres first name is Jean-Auguste-Dominique! What a mouthful. What were his parents thinking? Ingres was born in 1780 and died in 1867 aged 86.
It is quite outstanding that this painting is not outshone by that frame – talk about fancy!
What a beautiful painting, the skin tones have the touch of genius. I wonder who commissioned this painting and where it was first displayed.
