The Dressmakers of Yarrandarrah Prison by Meredith Jaffe

The Dressmakers of Yarrandarrah Prison was a different quirky read.  As you may have guessed, the setting is an Australian prison.

The hero? is Derek, doing time for embezzlement – a gambling addict.  His daughter Debbie is getting married and he want to make her a gift.

He and some others are in a prison sewing circle, facilitated by a do gooder lady.  This group somehow comes up with the idea of making Debbie's wedding dress.

Derek hasn't seen Debbie for years but has written to her every week.

This book is funny, a bit dark at times and the ultimate denouement is unexpected and very satisfying.
