The Kitchen Front is an unusual novel – in a good way. When I returned it to the library, the librarian assumed it was non-fiction from a quick glance at the cover!
It is set in 1942 wartime England. There is a radio programme called The Kitchen Front which tries to encourage women to cook with limited ingredients. It is fronted by a man who reluctantly agrees to having a competition in his local village to see who will co-present the programme with him.
There are 4 contenders from very different backgrounds. They end up living in the same house (in circumstances which I found too unbelievable).
Notwithstanding, this was a clever tale mixing food (there are even recipes), woman power and romance.
The author also wrote The Chilbury Ladies' Choir.
Sounds like a nice story to curl up with.
