A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle

Stand by for another rave review – this one's a pearler.  It comes from 1992.  It is sort of a cross between science fiction and Harry Potter (not the magic but the complicated words etc)

The author weaves a story about some kids going through a wrinkle in time to rescue one of their Dad's - who has been imprisoned by the ghastly IT.

I know, it sounds not that enticing but the way it is written makes it a stand out.  It is the first of a quintet about time – but I don't know if the others are as good.

The book's first sentence is – It was a dark and stormy night.  This sentence was originally used in an 1830 novel.  And has been parodied many times – it sort of a nod nod wink wink to the reader that not everything should be taken deadly seriously.

I can't do this one justice – just get it out from the library and prepare to be charmed.

  1. Yes, I love this novel too, an exciting and dangerous rescue attempt by the children and mysterious things going on.
