Botero is mostly famous for his sculptures – of really
rotund figures. But he painted too. This painting is titled Our Lady of Cajica.
Cajica is a town in Columbia just north of the capital, Bogota.
The Madonna is a huge figure who cradles a podgy baby.
Botero was born in Columbia in 1932 and this work was done when he was 40. He now lives in Paris – nice!
