My sweet LordMm, my LordMm, my Lord I really want to see youReally want to be with youReally want to see you, LordBut it takes so long, my Lord My sweet LordMm, my LordMm, my Lord I really want to know youI really want to go with youReally want to show you, LordThat it won't take long, my Lord(Hallelujah)
My Sweet Lord was top of the charts in the UK and US for 1971. It was written by George Harrison after the Beatles split up. He was influenced both by Christianity and the Hare Krishnas.
Harrison lost a copyright infringement action and it was found that he had subconsciously copied a Chiffon's song – He's So Fine. Whatever the controversy, this was one heck of a song.
Many other artists have covered the song – including, Peggy Lee, Nina Simone, Boy George and Elton John.
