Lady in Grey by John White Alexander

I picked this painting to share today because I think the dress is fantabulous.  Those sleeves – the rows of ribbon round the hem.  And the subtlety of the colour.

This painting was first exhibited in 1893. The artist was an American (from Pennsylvania).  He studied in Europe.  He married Elizabeth Alexander (no relation) who was well connected socially.  This helped him get commissions.

  1. The subtlety of the color is what really makes me happy I saw this picture.
