Paris Never Leaves You by Ellen Feldman

A book set in Paris – what's not to like.  But actually this one was pretty special.  Instead of a more normal approach of having the heroine a heroic resistance worker defying the Germans during the occupation of Paris, you have a far more nuanced heroine, Charlotte Foret, who does what it takes, however unpleasant, to get herself and her baby through the war. A German officer is involved – but don't make any assumptions…

After the war she gets to America but still feels guilty.  Her daughter is growing up and asking questions about her identity.  The burden of secrets held is a heavy one.

  1. That sounds intriguing. I do love Paris and novels set there.
