The
Book of Lost Names not only has a lovely cover but it was a
treat to read as well. Kristin Harmel knows how to draw you in quickly.
There are dual time lines but the present day one is
not intrusive and most of the book occurs during the War.
The heroine, Eva, has to flee Paris from the Nazi's and
ends up in a little village close to the Swiss border. She is an artist and her talents are used to
forge documents for other refugees and for the resistance. She uses an old
religious text to keep a list of the original names of children she has helped
and their new names – in code.
While there is a lot of suspense and sorrow, at its
very heart it is a love story.
Don't miss this one.
The stories that the Great War turn out are immense and so courageous. All of them.
