So where is the steepest street in the world? In New Zealand, of course! It's in Dunedin – a city in the South Island. It's called Baldwin Street.
There was a cheeky challenge by the Welsh who temporarily got one of their streets named the steepest until a good Kiwi surveyor went there and proved that they had measured wrongly.
The street, along with many others was not intentionally steep – the city was laid out in a grid pattern in London with no regard for topography – leading to interesting results.
The street used to have an annual Jaffa roll – little orange chocolate balls – but for obvious reasons, not this year. There is usually also an annual race up and down it – only for masochists.
That is so interesting. Thanks for this.
