Devonport

 

I have now found at least 4 places called Devonport – one in Devon (go figure), Plymouth (UK), Tasmania (Australia) and New Zealand's own Devonport – a suburb of Auckland.

Devonport is very close to the CBD – by ferry about 12 minutes – but quite a long drive by road.  It is a harbourside suburb.

 

It is home to New Zealand's navy – with the only naval base.

 

You can climb up Mt Victoria.

 

There are quite a lot of heritage buildings in Devonport including the Esplanade Hotel.
