The Year of Living Danishly by Helen Russell

The Year of Living Danishly was an interesting but not perfect read.  I was interested in what Denmark might really be like as a place to live.  The author captured this in a light hearted self deprecating way that was quite attractive.

I could have done without all the statistical references though.  The author is a journalist so I guess she wanted to back up her views.

Her husband went to work for Lego so she ended up in the back of beyond in Jutland.  It sounds like most fun is to be had in Copenhagen.

If you are interested in Denmark or what makes Danes tick you'll enjoy this one.

  1. I totally agree with you as you might have seen in my post.

Actually, I didn't mind the statistics but I guess everyone is different there. I just didn't know at the beginning whether I should be amused or annoyed by the naïveté of the author when moving to a different country. Mind you, I've done it several times, so got used to it.

But it's definitely a good book about Denmark which I love as a country. But it's one of our neighbour countries, so easy for me to get there. Not at the moment but usually.
