Ahipara and the 90 mile beach

You find Ahipara (sacred fire in Te Reo) at the southern end of the 90 mile Beach  - which is actually 55 miles long.  This beach is almost right at the top of the North Island on the left hand side.  About 5 hour drive north of Auckland.

The beach is officially a public highway and is used as an alternative to State Highway 1.  Mainly by tourists or when the main road is blocked by landslides etc.

You can body board on the Te Paki dunes.

Incredible sunsets

Good surfing – left hand surf break – whatever that means

There is a bit of accommodations at Ahipara – but don't expect 5 star.  But you can get a 5 star view.
