Piha is a black sand surf beach 39 kilometres from the
Auckland CBD. The beach is divided into 2 by Lion Rock. The adventurous can climb the Rock.
It's quite a dangerous beach with unpredictable rips –
so you need to be a good surf swimmer.
Sunsets are stunning at the beach.
Although it is quite close to the big city you feel a
million miles away from it. There are
bush walks and a waterfall (Kitekite) as well as a trendy café. There are baches (holiday homes) but no
hotel/motel. Some baches are rentable.
