Woman in History – Mary Anning

Mary Anning walked in the footsteps of Dinosaurs…

Mary Anning was born in Lyme Regis, England in 1799.  At the time people believed that the world was only thousands of years old.  Mary's interest in fossils helped prove that the world is actually millions and millions of years old.

Mary was very good at fossil hunting.  Better than the men who wrote books about the fossils she found.

Today Mary is recognised as one of the first and most important paleontologists.

Thanks to the fabulous book Fantastically Great Women Who Changed The World by Kate Pankhurst.

  1. I read Remarkable Creatures by Tracy Chevalier a couple of years ago with my book club. It's a great account of Mary Anning's life. What an interesting story how we learned to look at the world in a totally different way through her finds.
