Puhoi just north of Auckland

Puhoi is a village just 40 k's north of Auckland.  It was settled in 1863 by immigrants from Bohemia (part of the Czech Republic). Puhoi means slow water in Te Reo (Maori)

If you visit Puhoi don't miss the Puhoi Pub – one of the last truly historic pubs (a pub is what we call a bar).

The original migrants built a Catholic church which is still in use today.

There is a village market on the last Sunday of each month.

And don't miss the Puhoi Library – it's a little gem.

If you are feeling energetic you can hire canoes and paddle down the Puhoi river.

PS  I know you probably can't travel now - but we can all dream...
