Portrait of the Artist's Wife by Egon Schiele

This portrait was done in 1917.  The very next year this woman died of the so-called Spanish flu and three days later so did the artist.

No one knows where the Spanish flu started – other than it didn't start in Spain.  During the War news of the flu epidemic was suppressed but Spain as a neutral country did raise it in the press.  So it became Spanish!

Stay safe everyone.
