Case Histories by Kate Atkinson

So, there is absolutely no question that Kate Atkinson is a fabulous writer.  This 2004 book is the first featuring an ex-policeman turned PI, Jackson Brodie.  Despite some aspects of the book being a little too coincidental to be credible, I will be looking out for the next in the series – One Good Turn.

Stephen King called it the best mystery of the decade.  Quite an accolade.

So there are 3 different cold cases.  The detective also has his own issues to grapple with.  The struggle of he and others for good is balanced out by the evil that lurked in the past.  Don't expect everything to turn out happy.

This novel inspired a TV series of the same name.

  1. I liked this one a lot. Somehow I never went on with the series. Maybe someday?
