Grown Ups by Marian Keyes

Grown Ups was a good read.  But the content didn't match the blurb on the front cover – it wasn't 'gloriously funny' (Sunday Times) or 'pure joy, such a treat' (Caitlin Moran).  'profound and heartbreaking' – yes but not funny.

The story concerns 3 brothers and their wives and children.  It is complicated and intense at times.  The most harrowing part is the challenges faced by the wife, Cara, who has an eating disorder.

Another character made me understand a bit more of how an older richer relative can make their siblings feel – obligated, annoyed etc

But everyone mucks up, people bonk each other who shouldn't – some sex scenes.  It is quite Irish.

A must read for Marian Keyes fans.

I have posted before about The Woman Who Stole My Life  and her non-fiction book Saved by Cake.
