Ernst Haeckel

I stumbled across an illustration by Ernst Haeckel and decided to find out more.  My trusty library provided  a book Art Forms in Nature which had 100 plates as well as some biographical information.

Ernst Haeckel  was born in 1834 in what is now part of Germany.  He qualified as a doctor.

  

He then became fascinated with the natural world and started doing his illustrations.  So intricate and detailed. This set of illustrations was published in serial form between 1899 and 1904.  He died in 1919.
