Books You Loved: New Year Edition came up with some great books. Thank you
to all. Here are a few that caught my eye:
Dorothy from The
Nature of Things brought over Girl,
Woman, Other by Bernardine Evaristo.
Her review said 'I thought this book was a remarkable accomplishment.
The writing is lyrical, poetic, and it shines throughout with a wit and a
vitality of spirit. The plot is loose; one might even argue that it doesn't
have a plot but that doesn't really detract from the richness of the story. It
is evident why the Booker Prize folks liked it so much.'
Both Melissa (Chick
Lit Reviews) and Elizabeth (Silver's
Reviews) posted about Recipe for a
Perfect Wife by Karma Brown. Melissa
said 'This
story speaks volumes about women's roles in marriage both in the past and
present. It is a great story that will have readers captivated throughout.' Elizabeth said 'an endearing and nostalgic trip back
in time with the letters taking us back to the 1950’s and influencing Alice’s
present-day life. …readers who enjoy a dual time line and a story line that
keeps you wanting more will enjoy RECIPE FOR A PERFECT WIFE. '
The Little Bookshop on the Seine by Rebecca Raisin was reviewed on Books I Think You Should Read. The review said 'I love learning about new places through books. This little vacation in Paris was the perfect escape'
Husband
Material by Emily Belden was also posted on Books I
Think You Should Read. The review said 'What I thought
would be a pop-fiction with a 20-something trying to get married ended up being
way more involved with feelings, and histories, and relationships than I
originally expected.'
Barbara from Stray
Thoughts brought over some non-fiction – On
Writing Well by William Zinsser. Barbara said 'his book is
chock-full of good instruction and tips. I have markings and sticky tabs on
almost every other page.'
Now on to the February
edition – this month we have both Valentine's Day and the extra Leap Year Day. There are no rules for this party. The only requirement is that your post is
about a book that you loved.
To add to the list just pop the name of the book (and
your name/blog name if you like) into the first Mr Linky box and then copy and
paste the url of your post about it into the second box. Mr Linky now also
makes you tick a box.
I'll be pinning your links to this
Pinboard to
make it easier for you to check them out at a glance. It also has links from previous Februaries…
This one keeps your attention. (Who Speaks for the Damned)

ReplyDeleteThanks again, Carole.
ReplyDeleteI brought you a mystery by Ann Cleeves :-)
ReplyDeleteRead and loved "The Winter Palace", a story about Katharina the Great. I'm sure many others will like it, as well.
ReplyDeleteAnd I just noticed that I wrote a comment under last month's edition but never added the book, so I did that here now. Orhan Pamuk is one of my favourite authors.
