The
Summer Cottage is a feel good story about a middle aged
woman going back to her roots and starting over. It's not high literature but nor is it your
run of the mill chick lit.
If you want to be uplifted and reminded of the
importance of family memories and places, give this a go.
One note, it wasn't until
I'd finished the book that I saw the author on the dustjacket and realised
Viola Shipman is in fact a man – Wade Rouse – who took his grandmother's name
for writing novels. I reflected for a
while as to whether knowing this I would have read the book with a different
eye – but I don't think so.
That is interesting that he wrote under his grandmother's name. He was probably very close to her and thought as she did, maybe. xo Diana
