State of the Month – Texas

 Here is the next instalment of my monthly feature going through the States of the United States in alphabetical order to check out how they got named, what their flag is like and other things of interest. 

Texas is the second largest State both by area and population.

Location – Texas is on the Mexican border and also borders 4 other States – Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma and New Mexico.

Nicknames – The Lone Star State (because it was at one time an independent Republic)


Capital – Austin

  3. Im enjoying this series...and learning a lot about the country Im now living in.
    To add to it...heres a fun fact... Did you know you could fit the whole of the UK into Texas 2.8 times... to me thats incredible.. I always thought my little country was HUGE!!
