Sarah Tabitha Babbitt – Woman of Invention

Sarah Tabitha Babbitt was born in 1779 in Massachusetts.  She was a Shaker (a form of Quakerism).  She came from a forestry family and in 1810 she invented the circular saw to make cutting logs easier.  As a Shaker she didn't believe in patenting her idea and therefore she didn't make any money from it when it was adopted in the industry.
