The New
Zealand Book Council came up with a list of books by New
Zealanders that they reckon every kid should have read by the age of 12. I decided to check out the ones I haven't
read and post about the ones I agreed were good (in no particular order).
The
Wonky Donkey is just delightful. It dates back 10 years but has recently got
quite a high profile via YouTube – this clip of a Scottish granny
cracking up as she read it.
It is one of those songs/poems that builds like The
Partridge and the Pear Tree. You climax
the description of the donkey with spunky hanky-panky cranky stinky-dinky lanky
honky-tonky winky wonky donkey!
I saw this one FB and the news and couldn't stop laughing!!! I've forgotten about it...we are headed to see our 7 week old great! grand daughter. I just ordered via Amazon as our grand daughter is reading to her even now!!! Thanks for the reminder!
ReplyDeleteCarole, the book was delivered when we were there this weekend!! I was more excited than the mom! HA
